Radio Romania won, for the second consecutive year, the grand prize of the prestigious media festival ‘Takton’, staged in Novi Sad in Serbia. At this year’s edition Radio Romania won 7 awards. The Romanian public station had entries in 30 categories, among which radio drama, feature report and music. The festival, that promotes the quality of sound in radio and television productions was set up 30 years ago, but was suspended during the wars in the former Yugoslavia.
The film “Quod Erat Demonstrandum”, directed by the Romanian Andrei Gruzsniczki won the Special Prize of the Jury at the Rome International Film festival. The film was screened for the first time on November 12 in Italy’s capital city, being the first Romanian production ever included in the offical competition of this prestigious festival. The film tells the story of a Romanian mathematician who, in 1984, decided to publish his scientific work in an American magazine, without the permission of the then communist authorities.
The Mihail Kogalniceanu air base in south-eastern Romania will become an essential transit knot for the American equipment brought back from Afghanistan, says Duane Butch, Charge d’Affaires with the US Embassy in Bucharest. He has also said that Romania is one of the best and most loyal allies of the US. The American official has also mentioned, among other things, the early contribution Romania had to the NATO missions in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. The statements were made in the context of a new dynamics, over the past two years, in the Romanian-American ties in the political and military fields in particular. Romania is among the countries to host elements of the American anti-missile shield in Europe.
Negotiations between the Health Ministry and trade unions have continued in Bucharest with the latter announcing that the healthcare system staff will be on a warning strike on November 25 and starting November 28 on an all-out strike for an indefinite period of time. Protesters are asking for at least 6% of the GDP to be earmarked for the health system, for a legal framework able to guarantee their professional independence, a new salary law and better working conditions. The medical staff, over the past few weeks, have staged protests and picketed outside the Government and Health Ministry headquarters.
Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean is today taking part in Tibilisi in the swearing in ceremony of Georgia’s president – elect Giorgi Margvelaşvili. On Saturday Corlatean met with his counterpart Maia Panjikidze who thanked Romania for supporting Georgia’s bid to the EU.
