On Thursday in Bucharest, the Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlatean held talks with the Estonian president, Toomas Hendrik, stressing the need for a boost to Romanian — Estonian trade exchanges. The two officials hailed the excellent political relations between the two countries, proven by the many bilateral contacts and the tight cooperation within the EU and NATO. Also, they discussed means of further developing bilateral cooperation, given interests the two countries hare European and euro-Atlantic level. On Wednesday, the Estonian president had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Traian Basescu.
The Speaker of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea, met in Paris on Thursday with the leader of the socialist group in the National Assembly of France, Bruno le Roux, and with the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Harlem Desir. They approached issues regarding political dialogue at inter-parliamentary level, the strategic partnership between the two countries, the issue of the Roma ethnics in France and Romania’s joining Schengen. The French socialist leaders reiterated the need for a balance stand regarding the situation of the Roma in France and Romania’s Schengen accession, saying the two issues should tackled separately.
Romania is open to strengthening its economic relations with the Republic of Moldova, said on Thursday in Chisinau the Romanian economy Minister Varujan Vosganian, during a meeting with Moldovan PM Iurie Leanca. The Romanian official also said that at the Eastern Partnership Summit due in November in Vilnius, Romania will be a strong supporter of the Republic of Moldova. In turn, Iurie Leanca said his country is interested in cooperating tightly with Bucharest in order to attract Romanian investors. In Chisinau Varujan Vosganian attended the 7th Session of the inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
