New boost for the vaccination campaign

The number of immunized people in Romania is growing by the day

Tens of thousands of people are every day taken the anti-COVID-19 shot.
The authorities claim immunization helps combat this virus, which has so far
killed over 3 million people worldwide. Why do we need the vaccine? There are many
voices who support vaccination, but there are equally many people who refuse
taking the vaccine. The answer is rather simple: although prevention measures,
such as physical distancing, personal hygiene or the wearing of face masks, do
offer some protection, they are not enough. Vaccination remains the safest and
quickest method to protect ourselves, and the immunization of the population
should help eradicate this virus. Authorities in Bucharest want 35% of Romania’s
active population to get immunized by June 1, considering 2.7 million people
have already taken one dose of the anti-COVID vaccine.

Prime Minister Florin Cîțu said wherever
the vaccination rate is high there should be less restrictions. Immunization
also benefits the hospitality industry. Once all the personel working in
restaurants, coffee shops or hotels gets immunized at once, we can then start
talking about this sector as well, the Prime Minister also said. Florin Cîțu
suggested that workers who get immunized should even be paid bonuses. We want to
return to a normal state of affairs, and the only way to do that is vaccination,
Prime Minister Florin Cîțu said. The number of new vaccination centers is also
increasing across the country. The head of the national center for the
coordination of vaccination activities, military doctor Valeriu Gheorghiţă, in turn said mobile
vaccination units have already started immunizing people in seven counties in
Romania. Adequate vaccination units are still being set up in other counties,
where mobile teams will be dispatched together with all the necessary material,
Valeriu Gheorghiţă went on to say.

The Romanian official believes Romania has
one of the most accessible vaccination systems in Europe. Referring to the
percentage of the population who opt for vaccination, Valeriu Gheorghiţă said
that studies and current data show that 50% of Romanians are undecided, although
they may change their mind if they had more information about vaccination. As
regards vaccination at corporate level, Valeriu Gheorghiţă said this phase of the
vaccination is due to start next week. Valeriu Gheorghiţă explained that, over
the next period, a number of modifications will be implemented regarding appointments
for vaccination, specially in rural areas, considering some people have a
difficult time accessing the vaccination platform. People can thus make
appointments over the phone, by contacting the special call-center of
