The Romanian women’s volleyball side Alba Blaj has again lost the CEV Cup finals. The Romanians conceded a 3-0 home defeat against Italian side Novara on Tuesday night. Alba also lost the first match away 1-3. For the Romanian side this has been their fifth European finals lost after the ones in the Champions League, in 2018, CEV Cup in 2019 and 2023 and the Challenge Cup in 2021.
Romanian sides ACSH Gheorgheni and Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc will be playing each other in the finals of the regional ice hockey competition Erste Liga. Both sides have outperformed their semifinals opponents 4-1 on aggregate. On Tuesday Gheorgheni secured a 2-1 win against the defending champions Corona Brasov. On Tuesday in Budapest, Miercurea Ciuc clinched a 4-3 win against the Hungarian side Jegkorong Akademia.
Romania’s handball side Dinamo Bucureşti failed to qualify for the quarter finals of the Champions League. The Romanian champions lost their Wednesday’s away match to German side Magdeburg 35 – 29, in the second round of the playoffs for the quarters. The Germans also secured a 30-26 win in Bucharest a week ago.
In Bucharest the rain is causing a series of problems to the organizers of the ATP 250 tournament Tiriac Open, a competition with roughly 600 thousand Euros in prize money. So the fifth-seeded Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut, and the French Richard Gasquet conceded defeat in the round of 16 on Wednesday. Bautista was eliminated by Francisco Comesana of Argentina, in a three setter, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Gasquet, who benefitted from a wild card was defeated by Italian third-seeded Flavio Cobolli, also in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
This week saw the matches counting towards the quarter finals of Romania’s Football Cup. On Tuesday in Ovidiu, local side Farul Constanta outperformed third-leaguer Unirea Alba Iulia, 3-0. On Wednesday, Hermannstadt clinched a 4-0 win against second-leaguer CSM Reşiţa, while Rapid Bucharest outperformed Metalul Buzău, also from the second league, three-nil. The last game in the quarters will be pitching on Thursday CFR Cluj against Universitatea Craiova.
