The Romanian Government has approved more than 100 projects funded under the Development and Investment Fund, worth some 425 million Euros. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila has announced that the projects support investments made by local communities, all across the country, and their implementation is due to start next month.
Here is PM Viorica Dancila: “These are infrastructure works, for the construction of local roads, the modernization and rehabilitation of streets, schools and kindergartens, but also for hospitals, natural gas distribution networks and sewerage systems. All the approved projects are accompanied by complete documentation.”
The Prime Minister has also said that the infrastructure projects that are currently unfolding have also been successful, including the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, the Bucharest South ring-road and the express way linking Craiova to Pitesti, in the south. As regards the Sibiu-Pitesti motorway, which will cross the mountains and link the south and centre of the country, a contract has been signed for the first sector, 13 km long, which will be ready in 4 years. It is the only sector for which there is a designated builder. The motorway will be 123 km long and will be divided into 5 sectors. Its a major road infrastructure project, which will ensure the connection with the Pan-European Corridor IV, which crosses the country from the west to the east. The Ploiesti – Brasov motorway, which is a national strategic objective, will cost 1.36 billion Euros and is also due to be completed in four years time.
According to the prime-minister, this is one first package of projects funded by the Development and Investment Fund. The Government will carry on its analysis in order to approve some other projects up to the ceiling of 2.1 billion Euros this year, Viorica Dancila has announced.
We recall that the Development and Investment Fund is aimed at funding development projects that include investments or maintenance and repair works carried our by municipalities and inter-community development associations in priority fields such as health-care, education, water and sewerage, electricity and gas networks, transport infrastructure, sanitation, public lighting, etc. The fund can also be used for university projects, such as building and modernizing education and research infrastructure, accommodation centres or conference halls.
