The 16th edition of the Bucharest Auto Show and Accessories 2018 came to a close at the weekend. It brought together the largest producers and most important experts in the line industry. This year, the Show mixed in the experience of past editions and the dynamics of the current innovative and economic context, coming out with a dedicated platform, which turned, during the 11 days of the show, into the largest car business centre in Romania.

As Romania is this year celebrating 100 years since the Great Union of 1918, Retromobil Romania, Clubul Vehiculelor de Epocă (The Vintage Cars Club) and Clubul ARO10, organised a special stand devoted to the Centennial. Classical car makes and prototypes which have revolutionised the automotive world or which have gone down in Romania’s car history were put on show at this stand. Two of them were the famous Dacia 1300 produced in Pitesti, southern Romania, and the ARO off road vehicle manufactured in Câmpulung Muscel, also in the south.

The Show was also backed by the Association of Car Manufacturers in Romania, with city and off roads cars being exhibited during the show, alongside light and heavy utility service vehicles, classical cars, as well as motorbikes, scooters, bicycles, car spare parts and accessories. Of course, some the newest and exclusive car makes, belonging to famous producers like Lamborghini, Maserati, BMW, Audi, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Opel, Skoda, Suzuki, Toyota or Volvo held pride of place during the show.

Visitors could also take a tour of a special area devoted exclusively to electric cars, where the latest models of electric and hybrid cars were put on show, and experts have offered detailed information on the new technologies. Actually, during this year’s edition of the Bucharest Auto Show and Accessories the inventors of an autonomous electric bike, which uses solar energy have been awarded for their achievement by the organisers. The two promoters of the project, Mircea Moldovan, an MSC student at the Timisoara Polytechnic University, jointly with inventor Corneliu Birtok Băneasă, are now working on a prototype of their invention. Solar panels are integrated into the metal structure of the bike, to maximise the output of energy and not to be an inconvenience for the biker. Solar energy becomes the main propelling source for the bike if the biker gets tired and wants to take a break without making a stop.

Urban survival demonstrations, a seminar on labour force training in the automotive industry and the launch of a road safety book were also among the highlights of the show.
