BREAKING NEWS – Blast near Crevedia kills 1 and injures 26
The explosion occured on national road DN1A in Dâmbovița County.

26 firefighters were injured in a
second explosion at an LPG filling station near Crevedia, Dâmbovița
County. According to the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed
Arafat, one the firefighters is in critical condition.
The first explosion
occured earlier, killing one person and injuring another 5. A major fire errupted
in the wake of an explosion, with police and firefighter units taking all the
necessary precautions to contain the explosion site. A number of emergency
service units arrived on site, providing medical assistance to patients and transporting
the victims to emergency hospitals in the capital city. According to the Health
Ministry, a total of 7 people were hospitalised, of which 4 are in intesive
care. The data is provisional
as the situation is constantly evolving.
All road trafic in the area has been brought to a standstill.
In the wake of the explosion, a
surge in the concentration of PM10 particles was reported in areas surrounding
Bucharest, although for the time being the levels are still negligible, the
head of the National Environment Guard, Andrei Corlan says. The Romanian
official recommended the population to close their windows and stay indoors, as
these particles are hazardous to health, posing a risk particularly to people
who suffer from respiratory diseases. (VP)
