Temporary closure of RRI transmitters
In August RRI will air on 3 out of its 5 transmitters
Eugen Cojocariu, 01.08.2023, 09:10
Hello friends,
Due to budget cuts, Radio Romania’s Board of Administrators decided to
temporarily shut down two of Radiocom’s (the National Society for Radio
Communications) 5 shortwave transmitters broadcasting RRI programmes. Starting
August 1, our programmes will be transmitted via the Țigănești and Săftica transmitters (near
Bucharest) and Galbeni (in the east). To the extent Radio Romania’s budget will be supplemented, we will revert to broadcasting on 5
transmitters.
The shutdown
will affect RRI broadcasts in Romanian, English, French, German, Spanish,
Russian, Arabic, Chinese and Hebrew. These broadcasts will be aired on a single
frequency instead of two as of August 1. We will be announcing on-air, online
and on social media the frequencies you can tune in to as well as any specific
modifications brought to the frequencies operated by Radiocom, based on monitoring
of reception quality and the feedback you send.
Due to the
aforementioned cuts, Radio Romania also decided to reduce nighttime power usage
for medium-wave transmitters broadcasting domestic broadcasts of Radio România Actualități (Radio Romania News and Current
Affairs) and some of the other regional stations.
You are invited to tune in to RRI via our website, www.rri.ro (also on-demand), on SoundCloud, on
Android and iOS apps, one TuneIn and via satellite. You can also follow our
content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Spotify.
