This Week… in Your Letters
“(…) I have always fantasised about visiting Romania and its neighbouring countries Hungary and Bulgaria. Its name Romania echoes two things in mind, Romance and Rome. I my language, the word ‘Romani’ stands for romantic. (…) What I have learnt about Romania from literature and online surfing is that it is very close to nature and people are very hospitable and simple in their lives. They are also very close to nature”. (Hamad Kiani, Pakistan)

“I have been a loyal listener for many years. I am a writer of crime novels and often listen to RRI while I am writing. The beautiful landscape, architecture and culture inspire my writing. I sometimes get lost in the worlds I create by wandering through the streets of imaginary cities that are influenced by the wonders of Romania.” (Weldon Walles, USA)
“During my school days I heard the name of Nadia Comaneci, the winner of 3 Olympic gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics and wondered that she was the first female gymnast who scored a perfect 10 in an Olympic gymnastics event, moreover she was a Romanian! In my youth I have gone through the thriller of Dracula, originated in Romania. Being an inhabitant of West Bengal, I grew up in a communist environment, thus I have some natural curiosity about Romania’s history of communism.” (Binarani Mondal, India)
“As a librarian with an interest in museum studies, I make it a point to listen to World of Culture and The History Show. Both of these programs offer a wealth of information that is not readily available to those of us living in the United States. For similar reasons, I enjoy listening to broadcasts of Inside Romania.” (Matthew Weitendorf, USA)
