Out of the three Romanian sides
in the best-of-seven contest, two have qualified for the semifinals. Sport Club
Miercurea Ciuc was stopped in its tracks by Corona, after winning the latest
two editions of the Erste League. In 2021, the side from Harghita secured a 4-2
aggregate win against Corona Braşov and a year later obtained a 4-1 win against
Hungarian side Ferencváros.
Eight sides played in the
National Championships. Apart from the aforementioned Gheorgheni, Miercurea
Ciuc and Brasov, the Bucharest sides Steaua and Sportul Studentesc joined the competition
and so did CSM Galati, Fenestela 68 and Sapientia U23. Although the season isn’t
over yet, we already know three of the sides directly qualified for the
play-offs, namely Corona, Steaua and Gheorgheni
Galati, Fenestela, Miercurea ciuc
and Sapientia will be vying for the fourth place. Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc is
the defending champion.
