Romanian athletes taking part in
the Judo Masters hosted by Jerusalem had subpar performances. Florentina
Ivănescu, competing in the 63-kg category, Alexandra Raicu in the 73-kg
category and Vlăduţ Simionescu in the +100-kg category were knocked out in the
first round. The other three, Adrian Şulcă in the 73-kg category, Alex Creț in
the 90-kg category and Asley Gonzales in the 100-kg category, reached the round
of 16. A total of 367 competitors from 58 countries were enrolled in the event.
Japan ranked 1st in the medal standings, with three gold, two silver
and four bronze, followed by France with two gold, six silver and two bronze.

Steaua Bucharest on Thursday
grabbed its sixth consecutive win in the ice-hockey national championship,
winning 2-1 against Fenestela 68 away from home at the penalty shootout. Steaua
had won the previous match 5-0 on Wednesday, also away from home. ACSH
Gheorgheni continues to top the league tables with 46 points in 20 matches,
followed by Steaua with 41 points in 17 matches.
SCM U Craiova has qualified to the Romanian Cup Final
Four in men’s volleyball after defeating Unirea Dej on Thursday at home, score
3-0 in the second leg of the quarterfinals. Craiova had won the first leg on
Wendesday 3-1. Arcada Galați, the defending champions, have already secured
qualification. The other two teams will be decided on December 28, when SCM
Zalău will play Dinamo Bucharest. Dinamo won the first leg 0-3. In the other
quarterfinal match, Steaua Buchrest will take on Știința Explorări Baia Mare.
Steaua won the first leg 3-0.
In women’s volley, Dinamo
Bucharest is the new leader in the league tables after winning 3-0 on Thursday
against Știința Bacău in the 11th round.
Dinamo has 25 points after 10 matches and is followed in the standings by Volei
Alba Blaj with 23 points in 9 matches. The final fixtures of this round
are scheduled for Wednesday: FC Argeș
will play SCM U Craiova, CSM Târgoviște will go up against CSM Lugoj while
Rapid Bucharest will take on Alba Blaj. (VP)
