Razvan Burleanu won on Tuesday the third consecutive mandate at the helm of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF). Burleanu, who has been heading the organization for 8 years, was the only candidate in these elections, after the commission who verified the applications had rejected all other candidacies. This will be Burleanu’s last term as head of the Romanian Football Federation because the statute only allows for 3 mandates.

Razvan Burleanu has been heading the Romanian Football Federation since March 5, 2014, when he won the elections over three other candidates, namely, Vasile Avram, Gheorghe Chivorchian and Sorin Raducanu. He was 29 at the time and became the youngest president in the history of the Romanian Football Federation. Four years later, Burleanu won a new mandate from the first round, being voted by more than half of the members. His main contender at the time was Ionut Lupescu, a former member of the Romanian football’s golden generation and participant in two World Cups.

Razvan Burleanu was born on July 1, 1984 in Bacau. He is the son of former football player Gheorghe Burleanu, member of the teams FCM Bacau and Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt. At the age of 14 he attended the school of referees. He worked as a referee until the age of 19. He then attended the Faculty of Political Studies, with the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA) in Bucharest. He has PhD in the field of organizational changes. Burleanu was, between 2012 and 2014 President of the Romanian Mini-Football Federation. He set up the European Mini-football Federation, being elected president, a position he held until January 2017. In 2021 he was elected Board member of the International Football Federation, a mandate equivalent with the membership of the UEFA’s Executive Committee. (EE)
