In the Champions League in women’s handball, Group A, CSM Bucharest will play, on Saturday, in Koprivnica, against the Croatian team Podravka. The Romanian champion lost the first two games played this season, with the Danish team Esbjerg, away from home, and with the Russians from Rostov-Don, on home turf.
Next, news from football. The last three games counting for the last round of 16 of the Romanian Cup were played on Thursday. ACSO Filiași, from the third league, beat first-league UTA Arad 1-0, then Dinamo Bucharest won 1-0 against the second league team Ripensia Timișoara. The game in Craiova, won by Universitatea in front of the defending champion, CFR Cluj, also ended 1-0.
Ten first league teams qualified for the eighth round, namely: FC Voluntari, FC U Craiova 1948, Rapid, FC Argeş, Chindia Târgovişte, Gaz Metan Mediaş, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, FCSB, Dinamo and Universitatea Craiova. Addint to them are four from the second league, namely FC Hermannstadt, Poli Timişoara, Dunărea Călăraşi and FC Buzău, and two from the third league, namely Minaur Baia Mare and ACSO Filiaşi. The eighth finals will take place between October 26-28, the quarterfinals are scheduled around December 1, the semifinals will be played in a double round, on April 20 and May 11, respectively, and the final was scheduled for May 19, 2022.
Games counting for the tenth round of the first league championship take place this weekend. Friday, one game: Fast and FC Voluntari. On Saturday, FC Argeș plays, in Pitești, with Chindia Târgoviște, and FCSB takes on, in Bucharest, Academica of Clinceni. Three matches are schedulled for Sunday: Farul Constanța vs. CS Mioveni, FC Botoșani vs. FC U Craiova 1948 and UTA vs. CFR Cluj. The last two games are to be held on Monday: Gaz Metan Mediaș against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe and Universitatea Craiova against Dinamo. Cluj tops the ranking, with 24 points. There follow FC Botoșani, with 20, and Rapid, with 17. (MI)
