The men’s handball teams representing Romania in the EHF European League won the matches played this week. CSM Constanţa defeated the Portuguese team Sporting Lisbon, 29-28, at home, in Group H. It was the second consecutive victory for the Constanta team, who will play the next game at home, against the Poles from Chrobry Glogow, on of November 14.
In Group G, Dinamo Bucharest defeated the French team Chambery, away, 28-21. This was the second win for the Romanian champion, in the competition. In the third stage, Dinamo will be up against Fuchse Berlin, away from home, also on November 14.
News from volleyball now. Alba Blaj qualified for the women’s Champions League groups, after beating Croatian team Mladost Zagreb 3-2 on Wednesday. The match took place in the new multipurpose hall in Blaj, which hosts the mini-tournament of the second preliminary round of the competition. In the other match of the day, the Belgian team Asterix Avo Beveren defeated the Czech team Kralovo Pole Brno 3-nil. Beveren and Alba Blaj, with two wins and five points each, qualified for the competition groups.
In men’s volleyball, Steaua Bucharest took a big step towards the sixteenth finals of the Challenge Cup, after defeating the Luxembourg team Lorentzweiler, 3-1, on Wednesday evening, away, in the first leg of the preliminary round of the competition. The return match will be played in Bucharest, on November 1.
U-BT Cluj-Napoca defeated the Montenegrin team Buducnost Podgorica, 89-74, on Wednesday, at home, in a Group B match of the men’s EuroCup basketball competition. It was the third consecutive win for the Romanian champion in four stages. In the fifth stage, on November 1, U-BT Cluj-Napoca will be up against Aris Salonic, away. In the women’s Euroleague, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe was defeated away by the Spanish team Valencia Basket Club, 68-57. The Romanian champion, a debutant in the competition, suffered its fourth defeat in a row. Sepsi is 8th placed, the last, and in the fifth stage they will play at home against the Hungarian team Miskolc, next Wednesday. (EE)
