Romania’s first
match at the 2020 European Women’s Handball Championships in Denmark was
unfortunate for our team. In Group D, in a match played in Kolding, Romania
lost 22-10 to Germany. Romania had a poor early game, being led 7-1 and then
8-2 in the first half. Our handballers gradually picked up their game and the
score was 13-10 at half time. The second half was much better for our team, who
managed to even the odds 14-all. In the final minutes of the game, Germany
upped their game and took a bigger lead. Romania will next play Poland on
Saturday.
In news from
football, CFR Cluj still holds mathematical chances of advancing to the Europa
League round of 16 after drawing nil-all on Thursday in Cluj against visiting
side CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria. Both teams missed important scoring opportunities.
CFR ended the man in 10 field players after Alexandru Chipciu was sent off on
minute 85 after getting a second yellow booking for feigning an injury in the
opposing team’s penalty area. In the other Group A fixture, AS Rome of Italy
defeated 3-1 Young Boys Berne of Switzerland. On December 10, in Switzerland,
CFR Cluj must defeat Young Boys to advance to the next round.
