Romanian tennis player Irina Begu
stopped in the second round of the WTA 1000 in Miami, a competition with 8.8 million
dollars in prize money. The Romanian tennis player lost to Chinese Qinwen Zheng
2-6, 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday. Begu’s performance has been rewarded with a check of
30,885 dollars and 35 WTA points.
This weekend will be seeing two
games in the finals of the regional ice-hockey competition Erste Liga in
Budapest. The games will be pitching Romanian side ACSH Gheorgheni against
Hungarian side Ferencvaros. The first
two games were won by the Hungarian side in Romania, 3-2 and 2-1 and the team
to win the finals is the one which has four victories.
Romania’s national football side
on Saturday makes its debut in the preliminaries for the European Championship 2024.
The Romanians will be playing first the representative of Andorra in the Group
I of the preliminaries, which also include Switzerland, Israel, Kosovo and
Belarus. The first two sides in each of the ten preliminary groups will qualify
and the last three places will be decided in the Nations’ League play-offs in
March, next year. After the game against Andorra, Romania will be playing the
representative of Belarus in Bucharest. According to press agencies quoting
Gracenote surveys, Romania’s national eleven stands 42% chances to qualify for
the aforementioned competition.
The Romanian women’s handball
side Rapid Bucharest will be taking on Krim Ljubljana in a home match of the play-offs
for the Champions League qualifiers. Krim won the first home match 29-24. If
they beat Krim, Rapid will advance to the competition’s quarters to play
Norwegian side Vipers Kristiansand, winners of the last year’s edition.
