Romanian
footballer Bogdan Stancu, currently playing for the Turkish team Bursaspor, has
decided to retire from the national team. 30-year old Stancu is Romanian
national team’s best active scorer, with 14 goals on his record sheet. Dinamo’s
midfielder Gabriel Torje is the runner-up footballer in this rankings, with a
record of 11 goals.
Bodgan Stancu has
made public an open letter, from which we quote: It is with profound regret
that I announce, through this open letter, my retirement from the National Team
of Romania. I must admit it was rather hard to make such a decision, but I
thought time had come for me to focus more on my career as a footballer with
the club I have been signed up by, and, more importantly, to dedicate more time
to my family.
Bogdan Stancu was
Romanian national team’s only scorer in Euro 2016, the last time when the
national squad competed in a final tournament. Stancu scored one goal in the
game Romania lost to France, 1-2, as well as another goal, when Romania drew
against Switzerland, 1-all.
Striker Florin
Andone, currently signed up by the Spanish side Deportivo La Coruña, has been
selected footballer of the month in January 2018, by the fans of his team. In
favor of Florin Andone went 77 per cent of the 4,594 votes posted on Twitter.
Second-placed was Spaniard Adrián, with 15 per cent of the votes, while the
Portuguese Luisinho, with 8 per cent of the votes, came in third. In the
ongoing season, the Romanian footballer is Deportivo La Coruña’s most efficient
scorer, with a record of six goals scored in 19 fixtures. We recall that
Deportivo transferred Andone in 2016, from Cordoba, for the sum of four million
euros. It was the biggest sum of money Deportivo had paid for a transfer up to
that moment.
The race for the
top position at the helm of the Romanian Football Federation has taken a new
turn. Former footballer Adrian Mutu, who at international level is one of the
best-known Romanian footballers in recent years, has announced his support for the
candidacy of the Federation’s incumbent president Razvan Burleanu. At the
moment, Mutu is the Romanian Football Federation’s sports manager. We recall
that entering the race for the Federation’s presidency are former footballers
Ionut lupescu and Marcel Puscas. (translated by Eugen Nasta)
