The Romanian national team debuted with a decisive victory at the Womens Handball World Championship, which takes place in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, group E. In the match against Chile, Romania won 44-19, (25-6 at halftime). Midfielder Eliza Buceschi scored most goals for Romania, 6, and was declared best player of the match.
In the second match, Romania was up against Serbia, which it defeated 37-28, 19-13 at halftime. The best scorer for Romania in the second match was also Eliza Buceschi. She scored 8 times and she was again chosen best player. After these first two victories, Romania qualified for the main groups of the tournament.
In the third match of the group, Romania played against Denmark Tuesday evening. Denmark won a clear victory, 37-23 (21-10 at halftime). The best scorer of the Romanian team, with 5 goals, was the young inter left Diana Lixăndroiu, aged 18, who plays in the second league. In non of the three games Romania could use its star, Cristina Neagu, who is still injured. In the ranking of group E, Denmark took first place with 6 points, Romania 4 points, Serbia 2 points and Chile 0 points.
In the second stage of the competition, Denmark, Romania and Serbia were assigned to group III where they will play against Germany, Poland and Japan. Romania entered the second stage of the groups with 2 points and ranked 3rd out of 6 teams with a goal difference of minus 7. The group is led by Denmark with 4 points. The top two teams in the group qualify for the quarter-finals. On December 7, Romania will play against Germany, on December 9 against Japan, and on December 11 against Poland.
