Romanias women handball team Sepsi Sf. Gheorghe lost their last game in the EuroCup. The Romanian team was defeated at home by the Turkish team Orman Genclik, 65-50. The Romanian champion team ended up last place in Group D, after winning only once in six games.
In mens handball, Dinamo Bucharest, national champions, defeated at home Dobrogea Sud Constanta 27-19, in the 14th stage of the National League. Vice-champions Steaua Bucharest got defeated at home by Dunarea Calarasi, 34-29.
Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc, ice hockey champions, did not show up for the game scheduled for Thursday on the Olympic rink in Brasov with local team Corona Brasov, as part of the National Championships. The team from Harghita had asked for the rescheduling the game, claiming many injured players, but Corona did not agree. The team from Brasov did go out on the ice, and the game was announced as beginning. After 15 minutes, the whistle was blown once again signaling the symbolic end of the game, with Corona winning by default 5-0. In addition, the team from Miercurea Ciuc will be fined 5,000 Romanian lei, and 3 points.
News from football now. On the weekend, the Romanian premiere league held several regular games, counting for the 20th stage. Friday saw only one game, Concordia Chiajna against Poli Iasi. FC Voluntari hosts Astra Giurgiu while Mediaş is the venue for the Sibiu county derby, between Gaz Metan and FC Hermannstadt. The day wraps up with the match pitting Dinamo Bucureşti against Universitatea Craiova, taking place in Bucharest. On Sunday, Dunărea Călăraşi plays at home against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe, while FC Botoşani faces off against FCSB, also at home. The most interesting game of the stage is between Viitorul Constanţa and CFR Cluj. Cluj leads in the league with 40 points, followed by FCSB, with 37.
