The team made up of Mihai Tentea
and Ciprian Daroczi on Thursday won the two-man bobsled European Cup. After 8
rounds, Tentea and Daroczi totaled 776 points, outranking the crew made up of
the world and Olympic champions Oskars Melbardis and Intars Dambis of Latvia,
with 771 points. Ranking third were Simon Friedli and Gregory Jones of
Switzerland, with 666 points. This is the first time a Romanian team wins the
men’s bobsled event in the European Cup.
This weekend will see new matches
in European handball inter-club competitions. In Champions League, in Group 1,
CSM Bucharest will take on the French side Metz. In Group 2, SCM Ramnicu Valcea
is playing Savehof in Sweden. In the EHF Cup, in Group B, Magura Cisnadie will
take on Podravka Koprivnica of Croatia. Also on home turf Gloria
Bistrita-Nasaud will play MKS Lublin of Poland in Group C.
The Romanian football championship
will resume this weekend. Matches towards the 23rd round will be
played from Friday through Sunday. On Friday, Universitatea Craiova will take
on Gaz Metan Medias. On Saturday, in Clinceni, the local side Academica will
play FC Voluntari, while FC Hermannstadt will play Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. In
Bucharest, Dinamo will play Astra Giurgiu. On Sunday, in Ploiesti, Chindia
Targoviste will go up against visitors from FC Botosani, while in Cluj the
local side CFR will take on FCSB. On Monday, Politehnica Iasi will play
Viitorul Constanta. CFR tops the league tables with 44 points, followed by
Astra Giurgiu with 40 points and FCSB with 39 points.
