Brussels visit — The Romanian PM Mihai Tudose will tell Brussels officials that Romania and the current government will observe all the commitments made to the EU. In the coming days Mihai Tudose will pay his first official visit to Brussels in his capacity as prime minister. He will have meetings with the main EU officials among whom the president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. The visit was announced by the minister delegate for European Affairs, Victor Negrescu, according to whom international cooperation and European affairs are the priories of the Romanian government.



Krakow — Several old beech forests in Romania and another 11 European countries, among which Germany, Spain and Italy have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in Krakow. According to the UNESCO website ever since the end of the last Ice Age, the European beech forests have expanded from several isolated areas in the Alps, Carpathians, Pyrenees and the Mediterranean area, becoming dominant in only 4 thousand years in the central European area. The website writes that this expansion is related to the beech tree’s flexibility and tolerance to different climate and geographical conditions.



Tennis — The best Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, will play Monday in round four of the Wimbledon tournament against Viktoria Azarenka of Belarus, a former world no. 1 player. Second seed Halep is the only representative of Romania who has remained in the singles competition. In the women’s doubles, the pair Monica Niculescu/Hao-Ching Chan (Romania/Taiwan) will play on Monday as well in the eight finals against the pair Beatriz Haddad Maia/Ana Konjuh (Brazil/Croatia), while in the men’s doubles, also in the eighth finals, Romanian Florin Mergea and Pakistani Aisam-UI-Qureshi will take on the pair Lukasz Kubot/Marcelo Melo (Poland/Brazil).



Weather — The weather will become hot in most regions of Romania. In the west and locally in the south it will be very hot, with the thermal comfort index reaching 80 units. The highs of the day range from 25 to 37 degrees C. Meteorologists have announced that in the coming days the west and south of the country will be affected by a heat wave, when noon temperatures will reach 37 degrees C. Last weekend Romania was faced with scorching days when temperatures exceeded 40 degrees C in the south.



G-20 Syria ceasefire — The Russian- American ceasefire agreement in the southwest of Syria came into force on Sunday afternoon. Reuters reports that this is the most recent attempt to reestablish peace in Syria, a country affected by war for six years. The US, Russia and Jordan reached a ceasefire agreement and a de-escalation agreement with the purpose of opening the way for a larger-scale, more solid truce in Syria. US President Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin on Friday reached a ceasefire agreement in the southwest of Syria in Germany, at their first meeting at the G-20 summit. The Syrian conflict has killed more than 320 thousand people in 6 years.



Rowing Cup — Romania’s women’s 8+1 rowing crew has won the race at the Lucerne World Rowing Cup (Switzerland), the most prestigious Academic Rowing Regatta set up in 1933. Romania participated with 4 crews in the 3rd leg of the 2017 World Rowing Cup. The Lucerne Regatta is the most important competition ahead of the Sarasota World Championship in the US.
