Today’s guest on our programme is Carrie Hooper. She was born blind, but
that didn’t stop her from going to regular school and taking not one, not two,
but several degrees in music and foreign languages. She discovered Romanian
while listening to Romanian language lessons broadcast – surprise, surprise -
by Radio Romania International’s Spanish and English departments. She soon took
a liking to this language, which she now actually teaches alongside piano,
voice and a number of other languages. Last summer Carrie Hooper also had the
opportunity to visit Romania, and one of her destinations was the headquarters
of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation. Hers is a story of perseverance
and fortitude in the face of life’s challenges and uncertainties. But let’s
