This week…in your letters

Hard to believe that we are already in September as I write this report, how quickly this year seems to have gone, and it will be Christmas again before we know it. Thankfully the weather here has been very mild, and we havent suffered with any of the heat waves that have affected southern Europe, or any of the awful floods that have affected Texas and Bangladesh, we are very lucky to live in such a place where such extremes are fairly rare. I have been listening daily, mostly on 13660 or 11810 kHz, usually one frequency is better than the other, but this varies from day to day, so I have both frequencies stored in memory channels and just flip between them till I find the best one. This past week 13660 kHz has been slightly better between 1700 and 1800 GMT. I enjoyed todays Visit Romania feature about the coastal city of Sulina, I always like to hear about such places, and their history and geography, and I keep hoping that one day I will get a chance to visit them myself”.

I live in a town outside Seattle, which is on the western coast of America. It is amazing that in the early evening I was able to receive your station. To make sure I was actually listening to your station, I went online to your audio feed to see if it played the same as I heard on the radio…and it was the same broadcast! Good wishes to you at your station and may peace and good wishes come your way”.

Greetings from India. I am pleased to send you a reception report after a long time, but at the same time apologise for accumulating several old reception reports. Though I have heard the English programmes frequently in recent days, but several weeks before that I had become an occasional listener for a short while due to a very busy work and travel schedule. I was unable to send you immediate feedback about reception observations and programme comments, and I am very sorry for the same. Today I was much prepared and determined to sit patiently and write this report – which is a communication with you that I must maintain regularly. I generally hear the 30 minute English programme from 0530 UTC on 17760 kHz. On several occasions Ive found reception quality quite inconsistent on this frequency. on a certain day, the signal would be too weak and hardly I can copy – I feel like whispers; and on the immediate next day, I may get a loud very nice signal which is usually very satisfactory and completely different from the previous day with the weak signal. For instance, during recent observation on 30th August, I observed very poor signals but next day on 31st, the signal was very good. I often verify the reception with the online WebSDR of University of Twente in the Netherlands, which often matches with the same at my end – so I think this is an issue that requires some attention. In recent programmes, I liked the discussion on Bullying issue on Society Today. Business club reports on recent trends in automobile industry in Romania, good productivity and farm produce in Romania etc was interesting. The travel reports are always interesting. Liked the report on opportunities in spa tourism in Romania (Business Club). I thank you for all the very well written articles, commentaries and other general programme scripts. The programmes are very easy to understand for this reason, especially political commentaries for Romania and related region which are not usually covered in our news channels and where you are the only source. Good writeup is an important factor that would keep RRI much ahead of all other broadcasters. Other than the programmes, I also follow the news and report segment with great interest. Winter in tropical and subtropical regions of India, I guess is pretty much different than in Europe. Here in winter we get lots of vegetables and it is best time to cook soups, bake cakes and try out different recipes. So Id appreciate in future episodes of the Cooking Show recipes of cakes, stews, soups be discussed if convenient. If possible please give alternatives to ingredients. Like for example, regarding meat and fish, please mention if chicken be used instead of read meat; if certain fish can be replaced with another if that is not available, etc. I thank you so much for your kind attention to my comments and the reception report, I hope this will be useful to you.”

“Greetings! My name is Chris Kullstroem, Im a writer from the Unites States and just had the pleasure of discovering your website. I love it! Im reaching out to tell you about a publication I just had released about my adventures in Transylvania: Drawn to the Dark: Explorations in Scare Tourism around the World. Drawn to the Dark is a travel narrative in which readers are taken to monster shows and other forms of “scare tourism” around the world. I embarked on this journey from October 2013-2014, and with the company of many local guides took part in celebrations including Vlad Tepes-based tourism throughout Transylvania, Krampusnacht in Austria, the Busó Carnival in Mohács, Walpurgisnacht in Germany, and festivals honoring demons in Japan. If you would like any additional information, please let me know. My hope is that the publication will increase the tourism in your wonderful country.”
