On January 1, 2019, Romania is celebrating 12 years since it joined the European Union and is taking over the half-yearly rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, its tenure coming to a close on June 30. In his traditional New Year Message, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, urges the Romanians to capitalise on the opportunity of holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“Let us capitalise on this opportunity and prove that Romania is seriously involved in consolidating the European project, the President of Romania has said in a video recording.
Recalling that on December 1, 2018, it was 100 years since all territories with a majority Romanian population united in one state, laying the foundation of the national unitary state, President Iohannis has said: “Dear Romanians, we are at the end of a year with a deep significance for Romania- the year of the Great Union Centenary. We turn a new page in our nations history and it is our responsibility to leave to the future generations a powerful democracy and a developed country.
President Klaus Iohannis has urged the Romanian citizens to build together Romanias next centenary of existence with a lot of courage, civic involvement and firm commitment and attachment to the values of the rule of law and he wished “A Happy New Year to all!. (Translated by D. Vijeu)
