A new edition of the Gaudeamus International Book and Education Fair has started in Bucharest. Organized by Radio Romania, this edition brings together more than 300 exhibitors — well-established Romanian publishers, educational institutions, book and publications retailers, professional associations and organizations active in the fields of culture and education, with many participants attending the fair for the first time. The rich book offer at the fair has by now become a tradition, with books targeting all age brackets.
Guest of honor at this edition of Gaudeamus is China, whose stand is quite impressive. The reading public has the opportunity to buy thousands of volumes by Chinese authors. The Chinese Deputy Education and Mass Media Minister Yan Xiaohong said the Gaudeamus Book and Education Fair would significantly contribute to boosting cultural cooperation between China and Romania.
With details on that, here is Minister Yan Xiaohong himself: ”We invite Romanian readers to visit our stand. We brought more than 3,000 books and our delegation is made of representatives of 50 leading publishers in China. We hope that in the wake of the event, the cultural, educational and editorial exchange between our countries will develop. We promised to take Romanian authors to the Chinese market as soon as we get back home. “
At the next edition of the Gaudeamus Fair, the special guest will be the United States. Attending the Fair, the US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, said the invitation was a great honor for his country.
Taking up on that, here is the US Ambassador himself:” The invitation for the US to take part in next year’s edition of the Fair is viewed with great interest in Washington, given the reputation of the event. We believe it is a great honor for the USA to be granted such a status in Romania and we are eager to bring our full contribution to the book fair. We hold Radio Romania in high esteem for being able to organize such a great event not only for literature and for Romania, but also for the international community. International book fairs are expensive, requiring many resources to be put together in order to make the fairs work, and each year Radio Romania has managed to do that, in its capacity as a public interest institution. “
In 2016, the Gaudeamus Book and Education Fair, the greatest such event across Romania, has come up with a generous offer for the reading public, made up of more than 850 editorial and professional events, an all-time record in the history of the Fair – book launches, meetings with authors and other personalities.
