“2019 was a year of victory for democracy and civil involvement, as we showed the world that we were a united nation, gathered around common values and ideals”, said president Klaus Iohannis in his New Years Message to the Romanian people.
The head of state voiced confidence that in the new year too, Romanians would continue to be animated by the desire to build a better Romania. “Lets build together, with solidarity and hope, a normal Romania, the country that is becoming a real home to all Romanians, wherever they may be” said the president in the end of his message.
“A normal Romania” was the slogan with which Klaus Iohannis won in 2019 a new five-year term at the helm of the country. In the speech he gave on December 21st, in Parliament, when he was sworn in, the head of state said that the objectives of his term were to modernize the administration, to restore citizens trust in the state institutions, to eliminate bureaucracy and to simplify legislation, which, according to Klaus Iohannis, should be free of any form of populism. He promised he would continue to support the fight against corruption and to act for Romanias international profile to be consolidated.
