As many as 40 travel agencies and representatives of town halls and associations in the field are taking part these days in ITB Berlin, the Worlds Leading Travel Trade Show. Romania has been a constant presence at this important event, dedicated to tourism experts and visitors alike ever since 1970. According to organizers, over 200,000 people from some 180 countries are expected to attend the event that ends on Sunday.
On March 8th, the opening day, high-ranking officials from participant countries and tour operators were invited to learn more about Romanian music, folk dance and traditional gastronomy, by taking part in the “Romanian Evening”, an event hosted by Romanias Ambassador to Germany Emil Hurezeanu and the Romanian Tourism Minister Mircea Dobre. In Berlin, Mircea Dobre held talks with the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai.
The Romanian Minister pointed out that among the objectives aimed at promoting Romania abroad were the opening of new tourism promotion and information offices, including one in Madrid, joining the leading structures of the World Tourism Organization and holding a permanent position within the organisations board. Mircea Dobre said he was satisfied with Romanias presence at ITB Berlin this year.
Mircea Dobre: “I think weve done very well, and Romanias stand looks good. We are placed between Iran and Frankfurt. We have started to count more internationally. As of this year, following talks with tour operators and travel agencies, Romania has started to sell much better in terms of tourism.”
At ITB Berlin, the Romanian Tourism Ministry launched the application called “ExploreRo”, available to tourists worldwide in English. Ionut Munteanu, one of the authors of the application, told us that the app will soon be available in Romanian as well.
Ionut Munteanu: “This is an app that makes a presentation of Romania by describing in a concise and structured way its most beautiful places, points of attraction and events which a tourist, traveler or business person may see and attend in Romania. It is available in AppStore ad Google Play, on all Android and iOS devices, and is free of charge.”
During the ITB Berlin, Romanias stand will present egg paining and pottery sessions, traditional costume design sessions and will present traditional jewelry-making techniques. Moreover, Romanias delegation will have meetings with several tour operators from Germany, China and India.
