Romania moves forward with a new prime minister, the Social Democrat Marcel Ciolacu, a new government, made up only of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL) without the Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) and also with promises, from political leaders, that during the upcoming months of hard work, effort and tensions, they will come up with solutions to complex challenges. At the end of the first government meeting, the prime minister announced that he had already given the ministers the first drafts orders, which would be enforced as soon as possible. They aim to reduce the price for basic foods, support food processing and introduce the support scheme for the industry of construction materials and green energy in agricultural companies.
All Romanian state officials must understand that we need performance in administration, we have targets and milestones to deliver under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and we cannot miss anything – special pensions, the salary law, the management of state companies, said Marcel Ciolacu: The mandate of this government is about reforms and the economy, more precisely, about how we make the economy produce more value and jobs, so as the results can be seen concretely in people’s pockets. That is why, in every government meeting, you will see that we have new economic stimulation measures on the agenda. But the first and most concrete result of good governance is for inflation to go down, for people to feel it in the prices of basic products. This is our top priority and we will start working on it as of next week. Win addition, we have other targeted measures to support agriculture, construction and energy. From my point of view, these are the areas that make the difference for people.
At the investiture ceremony, President Klaus Iohannis told the members of the government that a difficult period awaits them, with many problems to solve. The head of state voiced his confidence that the mandate taken over by Marcel Ciolacu will be defined by stability, efficiency and seriousness, just as the mandate of his predecessor, the Liberal Nicolae Ciucă was. Klaus Iohannis: I am confident that in this new position, and with this team that took the oath today, you will continue the work started by the coalition a year and a half ago. There are many problems to be solved, we must not live with the impression that everything has been solved and now things will be easier. We know from practice that things will get harder. We still have half a year to solve a lot of things, after which we enter a super-election year, which in itself is already a challenge for a society. We will have four rounds of elections, and, at the same time, the country must be governed responsibly and with efficiently.
Klaus Iohannis has also appreciated the fact that the government rotation, a first for Romania, was carried out quickly and smoothly. (EE)
