On the second day of the Annual
Reunion of the Romanian Diplomacy, heads of missions and general consuls were
received by Romanian president Klaus Iohannis.

According to the Romanian
president, accession to Europe’s border-free area, Schengen, and the Eurozone, after
all the conditions have been met, remain priorities for Romania. At the same
time, Iohannis has pointed out that Romania should capitalize on the trust it
gained while holding the EU rotating presidency in the first half of this year.

The Romanian president has also
referred to the Strategic Partnership with the USA, which he described as more
robust, of increased essence and durability. The common statement adopted last
week in Washington marked the decisive deepening of the Strategic Partnership
in essential fields, Iohannis went on to say.

Klaus Iohannis: Against the
very complex international background, the dimension of security and defence
within the Strategic Partnership with the United States has reached a level of
excellence. And we must take action in the future as well for the consolidation
of the bilateral political dialogue, military cooperation and security for
increasing the US strategic investment in Romania particularly in the energy
field, for increasing trade exchanges and coordination in regional and global
developments.

The head of the Romanian state has urged
all the participants to tell all Romania’s partners that Romania has a solid
democracy and remains a credible and stable ally under any circumstances.

Referring to Romania’s relations
with the neighboring Republic of Moldova, an ex-soviet Romanian-speaking
country, president Iohannis has said these relations remain a key priority for
Romania urging the diplomats to take action to increase the EU action benefits
in Chisinau.

According to Iohannis, Romania’s
relation with France has reached a new level of late, while that with Germany is
being characterized through sustained dynamism and strong economic, social and
human bonds. The Romanian president has also referred to the strategic
partnership with Great Britain, which must be updated and deepened after
Brexit.

At the end of the day, the Romanian
president talked on the phone with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about
the bilateral relations as well as aspects related to Britain’s withdrawal from
the EU. Iohannis said that a coordinated withdrawal from the EU is in the
interest of both Britain and the EU.

In turn Johnson assured the
Romanian president that after Brexit, protecting the rights of the Romanian
minority in Britain is a very important aspect for the government in London.
And the action taken by British authorities will be focused on this objective.
