Romanian students are back to school as of February the 10th, and the second half of the current school year, scheduled to end on June the 20th, brings a number of novelties. Between February the 18th and 20th, all eighth-graders will take part in a national evaluation simulation, and between March the 3rd and 7th a simulation of the national Baccalaureate exam will be held, for 12th-graders and, for the first time ever, for students currently in the 11th grade.

The week before the spring holiday, which is scheduled to start on April the 12th and to conclude on April the 22nd, after Easter, will consist in extra-curricular activities. For the first time this year, national assessment tests in humanities and sciences will be held between May the 6th and 29th for children in the second, fourth and sixth grades. Also in May, high school senior students taking part in international competitions will sit their Baccalaureate exams in a special session. The Romanian language and literature and the math exams, part of the national evaluation for eighth-graders, will be organized at the end of June.

A novelty this year is the change of the calculation method for high school entry scores. The national evaluation scores will now account for 75% of the high school admission score, and the average score of the four years of secondary school will account for only 25% of the high school admission score, as opposed to 50% so far. The first Baccalaureate session will be held between June the 10th and July the 7th. The 2014-2015 school year will start on September the 14th.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister Remus Pricopie has announced that, after a long period without major investments in the educational infrastructure, in 2014 this sector will benefit from 200 million euros, coming from the EU structural funds that were not spent in 2007-2013. Another half a billion euros will be earmarked for finalizing investment projects in the education sector in the 2014-2020 period.
