As usual, the opener is Romania’s Supercup fixture as in Cluj on Saturday, winner of domestic League One championship’s previous edition Astra Giurgiu are pitted against Romanian Cup holders CFR Cluj.
The League Cup final on Sunday will see Steaua Bucharest taking on Concordia Chajna. Steaua are on a training stage in the Netherlands and will return to Bucharest one day before the final. The League Cup final is officially scheduled for the spring, but it was delayed because of the national squad’ busy schedule prior to EURO 2016.
The drawing of lots was held this week, for the timetable of League One’s regular rounds. The first round is scheduled late next week. Headline-hitting is the fixture in Giurgiu, pitting local side Astra and Dinamo Bucharest. No less interesting is Oltenia’s derby, pitting Pandurii Targu Jiu against CSU Craiova. In Cluj, CFR take on southern Romanian team Concordia Chiajna.
FC Voluntari face Viitorul Constanta on home turf and also on home turf, Steaua Bucharest take on western Romanian opponents CSMS Iasi, while in Medias, western Romania, the local side, Gaz Metan take on ASA Targu Mures. The fixture pitting Rapid Bucharest against FC Botosani was supposed to be played this week, yet the General Assembly of Professional Football League on July 20th will rule if Rapid are officially accepted to play in League One’s 2016-2017 edition. Also on July 20th the motion to suspend bankruptcy proceedings for Rapid Football Club is to be decided upon.
