Marin is a Romanian football player who on Sunday scored his first goal in Serie
A, the first tier of Italian football. He plays for Cagliari, who held Verona
to a 1-nil draw on Sunday in the 10th leg of the Italian football
championship. Verona’s Mattia Zaccagni scored 21 minutes into the match but
Marin scored the equalising goal three minutes into the second half, after a
pass from Leonardo Pavoletti. Marin, who played in all of Cagliari’s ten
matches this season, was replaced on minute 83 by the Uruguayan player Christian
Oliva. For his good play on Sunday against Verona, Radio Romania International
has this week designated Răzvan Marin best Romanian athlete.
Răzvan
Marin was born in Bucharest on 23rd May 1996. His father, Petre Marin,
was himself a football player in the Romanian first division, having played for
local clubs such as Sportul Studenţesc, FC Naţional and Steaua Bucharest and for
the national side nine times. The son, Răzvan, began playing football at the
Bucharest club Pro Luceafărul. He then joined Gheorghe Hagi’s football academy
and made his debut in top level football with Viitorul Constanţa. He was with
this side from 2013 to 2017, when he signed up with the Belgian side Standard Liège.
In Belgium, Marin played 79 matches and scored 11 goals. He was noticed by the
Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam who signed him up in 2019 before loaning him to
Cagliari in 2020.
Răzvan
Marin was first selected for the national side, where he plays midfield, in
August 2016, in a match against Montenegro in the qualifying campaign for the
2018 World Cup. He didn’t play until two months later, on 8th
October, in a match against Armenia, which Romania won 5-nil and during which
he scored a goal. He has 25 caps for the national side.
