Tennis Player Ana Bogdan
Last week the city of Bogota in Columbia played host to a WTA tournament, totaling 250 thousand dollars in prize money.

Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan had a very good run in the tournament, reaching as far as the semi-finals. For this remarkable achievement, we have designated Ana Bogdan Athlete of the Week on RRI.
The Romanian player was seeded seventh in the main draw in Bogota. In the first round she ousted Mariana Duque-Marino of Columbia, 6-1, 7-6. The round of 16 pitted the Romanian against Ana Blinkova of Russia, whom the Romanian defeated at the end of three sets, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. In the second set’s tiebreak, Ana Bogdan saved a match point. In the quarterfinals, the Romanian knocked out Daniela Seguel of Chile in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. In the semis however she lost 6-3, 6-2 to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia.
This was the second consecutive semi-final for Ana Bogdan in the WTA circuit, after last week she had reached the semi-finals of the Monterrey tournament in Mexico. Her performance at Bogota earned Ana Bogdan a 11,500-dollar check and 110 WTA points. Bogdan climbed 10 places in WTA standings, now ranking 66th.
Romania right now has 6 players in the world’s top 70 players: Simona Halep, no. 1, Sorana Carstea, 34th placed, Irina-Camelia Begu, 38th ranked, Mihaela Buzarnescu in 40th place and finally Monica Niculescu, ranked 64th.
