FCSB and Sepsi
Sfantu Gheorghe will play the final of Romanian Cup in football, the 2020-2021
edition. In the return leg of the semifinals, this past Wednesday, FCSB
defeated Dinamo, 1-nil, on the National Arena in Bucharest. Scoring for FSCB
was Adrian Petre, in the 2nd minute of regular time. We recall that
the first leg, played on Dinamo’s turf was won by FCSB, 3-nil. In the other
semifinal, Sepsi secured a 3-nil win in the return leg they played in Iasi,
against local team Politehnica. We recall that in the first leg, Sepsi trounced
Poli Iasi, 5-1. In Iasi, István Fülöp provided the opener on 20 minutes, while
on 50 minutes the Dutch Anass Achahbar, scored the second goal for Sepsi. Swiss
Goran Karanović sealed the fate of the game with the third goal on minute 96.
The final is scheduled on July 22nd in Ploiesti, southern Romania.
This coming weekend
will see League One matches being played, counting towards the championship’s
Group 1. On Friday, FC Botosani take on Astra Giurgiu. The derby will be played
on Sunday, when Universitatea Craiova received the visit of FCSB. On Monday in
Bucharest, CFR Cluj face Gaz metan Medias, Universitatea Craiova are at the top
of the table, being one point clear than CFR Cluj.
The 9th
round of Group 2 will also be played at the weekend. On Friday, Viitorul
Constanţa play Academica Clinceni. On Saturday, FC Hermannstadt play a home
game against FC Voluntari. In the case of a win, the team from Sibiu avoids
relegation. On Sunday, in Bucharest, Dinamo are pitted against Poli Iasi. Both
Dinamo and Poli are placed in the red area of the current rankings, yet Poli
are one point clear than Dinamo. On Monday in Sfantu Gheorghe, Sepsi receive
the visit of bottom-of-the table team Chindia Targoviste. Sepsi needs at least
a draw to avoid the dangerous area.
