Second seed Simona Halep of Romania
will be facing the Czech player Barbora Strycova in the second round at Indian
Wells, while another Romanian player, Mihaela Buzarnescu, will be facing
Australia’s Daria Gavrilova. In the men’s singles, Romania’s Marius Copil will
play against the Republic of Moldova’s Radu Albot.
In the fourth round of the European
Rugby Championship, Romania will be playing Russia at home, in Botosani.
Georgia top the standings, while Romania rank 4th out of six
positions.
In the women’s handball Champions
League, the Romanian side CSM Bucharest play at home against the German side
Thuringer in a main round group match. The Hungarian side Gyor top the group,
while CSM rank third and Thuringer are in the last position, on 6th.
Romania have won
five medals at the European Under-23 Wrestling Championships in Novi Sad,
Serbia, including three silver in Greco-Roman wrestling and two bronze. On
Friday, Kriszta Tunde Incze will face Russia’s Maria Kuznetsova in the finals
of the 65-kg category, Suzanna Georgiana Seicariu wrestles for a bronze medal
with Azerbaijan’s Tatiana Varansova in the 53-kg category, while Alexandra
Anghel takes on Belorussia’s Anastasia Zimiankova in the 72-kg category.
The Group 1 and Group 2 matches of
the Romanian football League One begin this weekend. In Group 1, CFR Cluj play
Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe on Saturday, while Universitatea Craiova play Astra Giurgiu
on Sunday. The last match of the leg on Monday will see FCSB take on Viitorul
Constanta. In Group 2, after Friday’s match between Dinamo Bucharest and
Dunarea Calarasi, FC Hermannstabdt play Gaz Metan Medias on Saturday,
Politehnica Iasi play FC Voluntari on Sunday and FC Botosani play Concordia
Chiajna on Monday. CFR Cluj top the standings with 27 points, followed by FCSB
with 25 points and Universitatea Craiova with 23 points.
