Romanian football team FCSB has been eliminated from the Europa league. On Thursday, holders FCSB sustained an away nil-4 defeat by French challengers Olympique Lyonnais, in the second leg of the competition’s round of 16. We recall a week ago in Bucharest, Olympique Lyonnais had also secured a win, 3-1.
This coming weekend will see matches being played, counting towards the kick-start of the Romanian football Superleague’s Group1/Group2 phase. In Group 1 on Friday, Universitatea Craiova are pitted against Universitatea Cluj. On Saturday in Cluj, CFR faces Dinamo Bucharest. On Sunday, on the national Arena in Bucharest, FCSB faces Rapid Bucharest, in the round’s derby.
On Friday in Group 2, Petrolul Ploieşti plays FC Botoşani. On Saturday, Farul Constanţa play a home a game against Politehnica iasi. On Sunday, FC Hermannstadt Sibiu faces cu Unirea Slobozia, at home, while in Arad, the local team UTA takes on Oţelul Galaţi. The last fixture of the round is scheduled on Monday, when Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe faces Gloria Buzău.
Games counting towards the playoffs of Erste Liga ice hockey regional competition are underway in Budapest and Miercurea Ciuc. In Budapest, Corona Braşov grabbed a 5-2 win against Ferencváros. In Miskolc, ACSH Gheorgheni succeeded a 1-nil win against local team Jegesmedvek. In Miercurea Ciuc, Sport Club secured a 2-nil win against Debrecen. The following matches are scheduled on Friday.
This coming Sunday, away from home, Romanian national rugby squad engages in the 3rd-place final against Portugal in the Rugby Europe Championship. The match will be hosted by the Centro Desportivo Nacional do Jamor nearby Lisbon and will kickoff and 15:00 hrs local time, 17:00 hrs in Bucharest.
We recall Romania and Portugal have faced one another before in the ongoing season, in Romania’s Botosani, when Portugal thrashed our national squad, 34-6. In the competition’s final, Georgia takes on Spain, at home. We recall in the semifinals Romania was trounced by Georgia, 43-5, in Tbilisi, while Portugal lost to Spain, 31-42.
