This weekend will be seeing the matches of the second leg of the Champions League’s in women’s handball. In Group A, Gloria Bistriţa-Năsăud will be up against the French champions Metz in an away game. The French side has made it to the Final Four twice in the past three years. Last weekend, Metz, ended in a 29-all draw their away match against the Norwegians from Storhamar. In their Champions League’s debut, Gloria secured a 30-26 win against CSM Bucharest. On Sunday, CSM will be up, on their own turf, against Storhamar.
In the League’s B Group, Romania’s vice-champions Rapid Bucharest, will go to Norway to play local side Vipers Kristiansand, the 2023 winners of the Champions League. The Norwegians lost against Brest Bretagne 27-30 in France last week, whereas Rapid clinched a home win, 32-27 against Buducnost Podgorica. However, Rapid lost in the domestic championship to Gloria Bistriţa-Năsăud, 24 – 22.
This weekend will also be seeing the games of the ninth leg of the Romanian Football Superleague. Two games on Friday Sepsi OSK Sfântu Gheorghe plays FC Botoşani and Dinamo Bucharest takes on Unirea Slobozia. On Saturday, Oţelul Galaţi plays Gloria Buzău away from home, while in Ploiesti, southern Romania, local side Petrolul plays Farul Constanţa. The first match on Sunday will be pitching in Iasi, north-eastern Romania, Poli against Universitatea Craiova. Poli Iasi has a new headcoach, Emil Săndoi, who has this week replaced Portuguese Tony da Silva. The leg’s most important match will be pitching CFR Cluj and FCSB, in Transylvania.
On Monday in Arad, local side UTA will be playing FC Hermannstadt of sibiu, while in Bucharest Rapid will be up against Universitatea Cluj. After eight legs, Universitatea Cluj tops the table with 18 points followed by Universitatea Craiova and Oţelul Galaţi.
