First, let us just welcome the
excellent run of the Romanian football side CFR Cluj in the Europa League. They
won on Thursday night 1-nil in Group E against the French side Rennes, with the
Venezuelan international player Mario Rodon scoring 87 minutes into the match.
CFR Cluj now only need one point to advance to the play-offs in spring, with
two matches left in the group stage, namely against Lazio away and against
Celtic Glasgow at home.

We continue with table tennis. The
Romanian national side made up of Bernadette Szocs, Eliza Samara, Daniela Dodean Monteiro and Adina Diaconu
are facing Japan on Friday in the quartefinals of the Table Tennis World Cup,
which is under way in Tokyo. Earlier, in the group stage, Romania lost to
Taiwan 1-3 and won against Vanuatu 3-nil.

This weekend
will be seeing matches as part of the women’s handball European competitions.
In the third round of the EHF Cup, two Romanian sides meet on Saturday, Gloria
Bistrita Nasaud and Corona Brasov. In the same round, Magura Cisnadie are
playing away on Sunday against the Spanish side Rocassa Gran Canaria. Also on Sunday,
but in the Champions League, CSM Bucharest, who have already qualified for the
next stage, are playing at home against the Danish side Esbjerg in a Group B
match; while CSM Ramnicu Valcea, who are currently third in their group, face
the German side Bietigheim away.

We end with
football. The 16th leg of the Romanian League One is taking place
this weekend. The first matches are taking place on Friday, when Astra Giurgiu
face FC Voluntari and Hermannstadt Sibiu face Viitorul Constanta. Saturday will
see the matches between Academica Clinceni and CSMS Iasi; Chindia Targoviste
