CFR Cluj won the 2020
edition of Romania’s Supercup in Football. Title Holders CFR overpowered
Romanian Cup winners FCSB, 4-1, after the penalty shootouts. The scoreboard
displayed a blank draw after regular time. CFR had the upper hand all
throughout the game, yet their failed to score. Penalty shootouts saw Mario Rondon, Adrian Păun, Alexandru Chipciu and
Mario Camora scoring. FCSB’s Risto Radunovic. scored the only goal for his
team. The ball shot by Ovidiu Perianu hit the crossbar, while the ball shot by Adrian
Şut was deflected by CFR’s keeper Giedrius Arlauskis. CFR have therefore won
Romania’s Supercup for the fourth time, a trophy they won in 2009, 2010 and 2018.
FCSB won six editions of the Supercup, being defeated in the Supercup final
also six times.

Matches counting towards
Group 1 and Group 2 stages of the domestic League One in football are scheduled
at the weekend. In Group 1 on Saturday, Universitatea Craiova play a home game
against Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. On Sunday, CFR Cluj take on Academica Clinceni
at home, while in Giurgiu, in the south, FCSB play FC Botosani. FCSB are at the
top of the table, with 33 points. Following are CFR Cluj, with 32 and
Universitatea Craiova, with 29 points.

In Group 2, on Friday, UTA
Arad face Viitorul Constanţa, while Astra Giurgiu are pitted against Dinamo Bucharest.
On Saturday, Chindia Targoviste take on FC Hermannstadt in Buzau, while in
Medias, in the west, the local side Gaz Metan face FC Voluntari. On Sunday in
Pitesti, FC Arges take on Politehnica Iasi. In Group1, FC Hermannstadt and Poli Iasi are 9th and
1th-placed, respectively, each with 13 points, so relegation looms large over
the two teams. With 16 points and, respectively, with 14 points, FC Voluntari
and Dinamo Bucharest are 7th and 8th-placed,
respectively, and will go into the play-off fixtures to avoid being relegated
to the domestic championship’s second league.
