The Romanian men’s polo team on Thursday missed the chance to
qualify to the quarterfinals of the pre-Olympic tournament in Rotterdam, after
losing to France 16-7. It was the last match for Romania, who needed a win to
advance to the next phase. At the pre-Olympic tournament, Romania won against
Germany but lost to the Netherlands and Croatia, and drew against Russia. The
quarterfinals will take place on Friday, the semi-finals on Saturday and the
finals on Sunday. The top three teams will qualify to the Olympic Games in
Tokyo.
In the highlight match of the latest round in the Romanian women’s
handball championship, CSM Bucharest won 27-22 against SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea. Due
to the coronavirus pandemic, the team from Bucharest couldn’t count on its
headcoach, Adrian Vasile, and on several other first-team players. Still, CSM
proved its worth and won the match easily. The topscorers for CSM were Cristina
Neagu with 7 goals and Crina Pintea with 6 goals. The topscorer for SCM Râmnicu
Vâlcea was Ewgenija Minevskaja with 6 goals. The two teams will also face each
other in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
