On Wednesday and Thursday 4 Romanian teams played in the European football cups. On Wednesday, in the Champions League second preliminary round CFR Cluj lost, at home, to the Croatian eleven Dinamo Zagreb following penalty kicks. At the end of the regular game time the score was 2-all. During the extra time, nobody scored so following penalty kicks Dinamo Zagreb won 6-5. CFR Cluj will continue in the 3rd preliminary round of Europa League.

On Thursday FC Botoşani, Universitatea Craiova and FCSB played in the Europa League first preliminary round. FC Botoşani defeated away from home the team of Kazakhstan Ordabasî Şimkent 2-1. In Georgia, Universitatea Craiova lost to Locomotive Tbilisi 2-1 and in Bucharest, FCSB defeated 3-0 the Armenian team Şirak Ghiumri. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this football seasons preliminary matches are played in one leg. The drawing of lots for the matches in the Europa League second preliminary round is scheduled for August 31.
The weekend will see matches counting for the second round of the Romanian First League football championship. On Friday, Gaz Metan Mediaş will play against FC Argeş and UTA Arad will take on FC Voluntari. On Saturday, FC Hermannstadt plays, on home ground, in Sibiu, against Academica from Clinceni and CFR Cluj will play at home against Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe. Most of the matches will be played on Saturday. FC Botoşani plays at home against Politehnica Iaşi. In Craiova, Universitatea will be up against Astra Giurgiu. And in Bucharest, FCSB faces Viitorul from Constanţa. Monday will see the last match of the second round: Chindia Târgovişte versus Dinamo Bucharest. (tr. L. Simion)
