Romanian Cup in football’s last tree
fixtures counting towards the Cup’s round of 16 were played on Thursday. In
Buzau, Politehnica Iasi grabbed a 3-nil win against Third-League team, the
local side Metalul. Mihai Teja’s trainees secured their win thanks to the goals
scored by Doru Popadiuc, Ovidiu Horşia and Iuliu Haţiegan. In Sfantu Gheorghe,
the local side Sepsi defeated Astra Giurgiu, 4-2. Scoring for the host team
were István Fülöp, Swiss Goran Karanović, who scored twice, and Congolese Hugo
Konongo. Scoring for Astra were Ciprian Biceanu and the French Julien Bègue. In
the last fixture counting towards the Cup’s round of 16, Universitatea Craiova
grabbed a 4-1 win against FC Voluntari. Craiova’s scorers were Valentin
Mihaila, with two goals, Alexandru Ionita, and Alexandru Cicâldău, who turned a
penalty kick into a goal. FC Voluntari’s
Swiss footballer Ivan Martić scored the only goal for his team.
FC Hermannstadt, FCSB, Academica
Clinceni, Petrolul Ploieşti and Dinamo Bucharest are the other five teams that will go through
to the Cup’s quarterfinals. Save for Petrolul Ploesti, a Second League team, the
other four squads fighting for a place in the semifinals are League One teams.
Also in news from domestic football, from Friday and all through to Monday games are played, counting
towards League One’s 15th round. On Friday, Viitorul Constanta is
pitted against Chindia Targoviste. On Saturday, Gaz Metan Medias plays a home
match against FC Hermannstadt, while in Cluj, CFR faces Academica Clinceni. On
Sunday, FC Voluntari play a home game against FC Botosani, while FCSB takes on
Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe, on the National Arena in Bucharest.
Round 15’s last two fixtures on
Monday will see Astra Giurgiu facing Politehnica Iasi and Universitatea Craiova
taking on Dinamo Bucharest. CFR Cluj is at the top of the table, with 27
points, followed by Viitorul Constanta, with 25 points.
