On Saturday, the Romanian women’s handball team SCM Craiova plays its debut game in the EHF Cup’s group stage for the 2018-2019 edition. Trophy holders SCM take on Danish contenders Nykøbing. In 2018, in the Champions League’s main group stage Nykøbing succeeded only two wins, of which one against Romania’s champions CSM Bucharest.
We carry on with news from women’s volleyball, as the southern Romanian town of Alexandria this coming Saturday will play host to a volleyball match pitting Romania’s national team against Spain’s national team. The fixture counts towards the 2019 edition of the European Championship’s qualifiers. Joining Romania and Spain in the same group are Latvia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The first two teams in the group will book their ticket for the European Championship. In preliminary Group F, Romania is at the top of the table, with 10 points. Following are Spain, with 9 points, Bosnia-Herzegovina, with 5, and Latvia, with no points. Romania a grabbed a 3-nil win in the match against Spain.
WTA number one tennis player, the Romanian Simona Halep resumes her participation in top-flight tournaments next week. Halep will be competing in the WTA tournament in Sydney, alongside the world’s top tennis players. Eight of the world’s best 10 tennis players have announced their participation in the Sydney tournament. The event in Sydney is the only one Halep takes part in, ahead of the Australian Open.
