Sports weekend
A preview of the sports action this weekend.

Tennis. Patricia Țig of
Romania, currently ranked 88th in the world ranking, has reached the
quarterfinals of the Istanbul tournament. She will be facing next Sweden’s Rebecca
Peterson, who is ranked 48th in the world.
Handball. The Romanian women’s
side SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea will be playing the French side Brest Bretagne away in
their first match in Champions League Group B. The group also includes Borussia
Dortmund from Germany, Gyori Audi from Hungary, Odense from Denmark, CSKA Moscow
from Russia, Podravka Vegeta from Croatia and Buducnost Podgorica from
Montenegro.
Group A matches will be
kicking off on Sunday, when CSM Bucharest will be playing the French side Metz
at home. Group A also includes Esbjerg from Denmark, Ljubljana from Slovenia,
Ferencvaros from Hungary, Kristiansand from Norway, Bietigheim from Germany and
Rostov on Don from Russia.
Rugby. Saturday will be
seeing the final two matches in the domestic super-league. Long-time rivals
Dinamo Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest will be vying for the 3rd
place, while CSM Baia Mare and SCM Timișoara are playing the final. These last
two sides have been a regular fixture of the super-league’s final in recent
seasons, except last year when Baia Mare played against Steaua Bucharest for a
change. Baia Mare won that match 24-22, winning the title.
Football. The 3rd
leg of the domestic League One is taking place this weekend. FC Argeș are
facing UTA and Dinamo Bucharest are playing FC Botoșani on Friday; Academica
Clinceni are playing Chindia Târgoviște, Politehnica Iași are playing Gaz Metan
Mediaș and FC Voluntari are playing FCSB on Saturday; while Astra Giurgiu are playing
Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe and CFR Cluj are playing FC Hermannstadt on Sunday. The
final leg match, between Viitorul Constanța and Universitatea Craiova, will be
held on Monday.
FCSB, FC Botoșani and
Universitatea Craiova are currently in the lead in the standings with 6 points
each, but separated by the goal difference. Viitorul Constanța with 1 point and
FC Argeș and Astra Giurgiu with no points are in the last three places.
