A preview of the sports action this weekend.

The Romanian women’s handball side Minaur Baia Mare are facing the
Danish side Viborg in the semifinals of the EHF European League, as
part of the Final Four tournament in Vienna. In the other semifinal,
the German side BBM Bietigheim are playing against another Danish
side, Herning-Ikaast Handbold. If they win on Saturday, Minaur will
play the final on Sunday. In men’s handball, the Romanian Cup Final Four matches will be held
on Saturday, with Minaur Baia Mare playing Dinamo Bucharest in the
first semifinal and Dobrogea Sud playing Steaua Bucharest in the
second. The final and the third-place match will be held in Sunday.
In rugby, the fourth round matches of the two domestic league groups
are taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s matches are SM
Baia Mare vs Știința Petroșani, Politehnica Iași vs Municipal
Galați, Steaua Bucharest vs Club Bârlad and Dinamo Bucharest vs
Săgeata Năvodari. Just one match is scheduled for Sunday, between
SCM Timișoara and Universitatea Cluj. Știința Petroșani are in
the lead in Group A with 15 points, followed by Universitatea Cluj
and SCM Timișoara with 10 points each. Grivița top Group B with 9
points, followed by Săgeata Năvodari with 8 points and Steaua and
Dinamo with 7 points each.
In domestic football, the 9th leg of the championship
group matches are held this weekend. FC Farul Constanța are playing
FC Argeș and FC Voluntari are playing FCSB on Saturday; while CFR
Cluj will be facing Universitatea Craiova on Sunday. CFR Cluj are
currently in the lead with 54 points, followed by FCSB with 52 points
and Universitatea Craiova with 45 points. In the relegation group,
Friday’s matches are Chindia
Târgoviște vs
Gaz Metan Mediaș and
Dinamo Bucharest
vs
UTA Arad. Saturday’s
matches are CS Mioveni vs
Rapid Bucharest,
Academica Clinceni vs
FC Botoșani and FCU Craiova vs Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe. Rapid
and Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe are in the lead in this group with 39
points each, followed by FC Botoșani with 38 points. Chindia
Târgoviște and Dnamo Bucharest are in play-off position, while
Academica Clinceni and Gaz Metan Mediaș are in relegation position. (CM)
