In men’s handball, Romanian
champions Dinamo Bucharest lost to FC Porto 27-26 in a Champions League Group B
match on Thursday. The Portuguese side took the lead in the last minute of the match, thanks
to a goal scored by Pedro Cruz. Dinamo’s Amine
Bannour then missed a chance to equalise and the fate of the match was sealed. In
previous group matches, Dinamo defeated the Polish side Kielce and then lost to
Paris Saint-Germain. They will be playing their next Champions League match
away in Barcelona, on 14th October.
In football news, Romanian champions CFR Cluj drew
1-all against the Danish side Randers in a match they hosted on Thursday night
in Group D of the Europa Conference League. Randers opened the scoreline 40
minutes into the match, thanks to a goal from Alhaji Kamara. Cluj’s Claudiu
Petrila equalised on minute 68. In their first group matches, CFR lost to the
Czech side Jablonec 1-nil away, while Randers drew 2-all against the Dutch side
AZ Alkmaar at home. CFR will play their next match against the Dutch, on 21st
October.
The 11th leg matches of the Romanian First
League are taking place this weekend. Friday sees CS Mioveni vs. FC Argeș and Chindia
Târgoviște vs. FCSB. On Saturday, Dinamo Bucharest are playing at home against UTA
Arad, and Sepsi Sfântu Gheoghe are playing, also at home, against Rapid Bucharest.
Three matches are scheduled for Sunday: FC Voluntari vs. Farul Constanța, CFR
Cluj vs. Gaz Metan Mediaș and FC U vs Universitatea, Craiova’s two local sides.
The final leg match will be held on Monday, when Academica Clinceni will face FC
Botoșani. In the First League standings, CFR Cluj are ahead with 27 points,
followed by FC Botoșani with 21 points. (CM)
