Romania qualified from the first place to the team final of the Womens European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Mersin, Turkey. At the same time, after Thursdays qualifying competition, Romania will have two representatives in all apparatus finals, except for uneven bars. With Larisa Iordache, Ioana Stănciulescu, Silvia Sfiringu, Antonia Duţa and Daniela Trică, Romania qualified first with 159.496 points, more than four and half points higher than Ukraine, who qualified second. Qualifying third was Hungary.
The team final will be held on Saturday in a 3-up-3-count competition format. Larisa Iordache, five-time European gold medalist, posted top scores on beam and floor, the second best mark on bars and third best on vault and qualified to all four individual event finals, to be held on Sunday.
Matches counting for the 14th leg of the Romanian First League have been held this week. On Tuesday, Astra Giurgiu defeated Gaz Metan Mediaș 3-nil, while FC Botoșani defeated Viitorul Constanța 2 – 1. On Wednesday, Poli Iași drew nil-all against Academica Clinceni, FC Argeș drew 2-all against FC Hermannstadt while Chindia Târgoviște defeated FC Voluntari 2-nil. On Thursday, Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe beat UTA Arad 3-nil, while CFR Cluj defeated Dinamo Bucharest 2-nil. In the last match of the 14th leg on Friday, Universitatea Craiova will be facing FCSB. The matches of the 15th leg, the last one of the regular season round, start on Saturday, with Chindia Târgoviște versus FC Argeș and Gaz Metan Mediaș against Viitorul Constanța. The derby between CFR Cluj and Universitatea Craiova has been scheduled for Tuesday.
