Romanian athlete Andreea Chiţu scooped silver in the 52-kg
category at the European Judo Championships held in Prague. In the round of 16
Chiţu defeated Amber Ryheul of Belgium. In the quarterfinals the Romanian
ousted Natalia Kuziutina of Russia, last year’s vice-champion, while in the
semi-finals she knocked out Ana Perez Box of Spain. In the final, however,
Andreea Chiţu lost to Odette Giuffrida of Italy. The bronze medals went to
Charline van Snick of Belgium and Estrella Lopez Sheriff of Spain.
The Romanian handball club CSM Bucharest lost 27-22 to
Rostov-Don of Russia at home in a Group A fixture in Champions League. Cristina
Neagu was the top scorer for CSM with 11 goals. Rostov-Don is now the new group
leader with 13 points in 7 games, followed by CSM Bucharest with 11 points in 8
games and Vipers Kristiansand of Norway with 7 points in 4 games. CSM Bucharest
was also due to play Bietigheim of Germany this weekend at home in round 9, but
the match was postponed due to new cases of COVID-19 reported at Ferencvaros
Budapest, Bietigheim’s last opponent in Champions League. This weekend will see
new matches in the women’s European Championship preliminaries. The Champions
League competition şwill resume in January.
This weekend will also see matches counting towards the 11th
round in the Romanian First Football League. On Friday, Politehnica Iaşi is
playing FC Argeş while Dinamo Bucharest will take on FC Voluntari. On Saturday,
Academica is playing Viitorul Constanţa in Clinceni, while FC Botoşani will go
up against Universitatea Craiova. On Sunday, FC Hermannstadt is playing Astra
Giurgiu in Mediaş, while CFR Cluj will take on UTA Arad at home. On Monday, Chindia
Târgovişte will play Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe while Gaz Metan Mediaş will take on FCSB.
FCSB and Universitatea Craiova are top of the league tables, each with 24
points.
