The
city of Cluj in western Romania is seeing the first tennis tournament staged in
Romania since the restriction measures imposed by the need to contain the Covid
pandemic were lifted. On Thursday in group A, Irina Bara secured a two-set win
against Georgia Craciun 7-5, 6-4. Craciun has also lost to Gabriela Ruse 6-3,
6-4. Bara and Ruse have thus qualified for the competition’s semifinals.
In
group B, Miriam Bulgaru has defeated Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 but has lost
to Irina Begu 7-5, 6-1. This Friday will see the groups’ last games, Irina Bara
versus Gabriela Ruse and Jaqueline Cristian versus Irina Begu. The semifinals
have been scheduled for this Saturday.
Now
the latest from football. Dinamo Bucharest registered a fresh defeat on
Thursday and remains at the bottom of the table. In a match counting towards
the seventh leg of Romania’s first football league Dinamo was outperformed by
Viitorul Constanta. In the same leg on Tuesday, Hermannstadt secured a 3-2 win
against Poli Iasi. On Wednesday Academica Clinceni managed a 1-0 win against
Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe and FC Voluntari won 2-0 at home against Chindia
Targoviste.
This
weekend will see the matches pitching Gaz Metan Medias against Universitatea
Craiova. On Saturday FCSB will be playing FC Botosani in a home game, which is
decisive for their qualification for the Europa League. Astra Giurgiu doesn’t
have a UEFA license and cannot play in the European cups irrespective of the
place occupied at the end of the championship. In order to play in the European
cups, FCSB also stand a chance in Romania’s Cup as they are nearly qualified
for the finals.
On
Sunday, CFR Cluj on top of the table takes on Astra Giurgiu in an away game. In
their matches against CFR this season Astra has secured a 3-2 home win and lost
0-2 away. CFR has clinched a 2-1 home win against Astra in their first game.
