The Romanian football club FCSB on
Thursday qualified to the Romanian Cup semi-finals. The team from Bucharest
defeated FC Hermannstadt away from home 2-1. On Tuesday, also in the Cup
quarterfinals, Dinamo Bucharest moved past Academica Clinceni 1-nil at home. On
Wednesday, Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe won 1-nil against Petrolul Ploiesti, while in
Iasi Politehnica defeated Universitatea Craiova 3-2. Therefore all Romanian Cup
semifinalists will be League One teams, FCSB, currently playing in Group 1 in
the domestic championship, and Sepsi, Dinamo and Poli, playing in Group 2.
Also in football let us note this
weekend will saw matches counting towards the second round of the group phase.
On Friday, in Group 1, Astra Giurgiu will play FC Botosani. On Sunday, on
National Arena stadium in Bucharest, FCSB will play Universitatea Craiova. On
Monday, Gaz Metan Medias will take on CFR Cluj at home. Cluj tops the league
tables with 29 points, followed by Craiova with 26 points. In Group 2, on Saturday,
Academica Clinceni will play Viitorul Constanta at home. Politehnica Iasi will
go up against visiting side Dinamo Bucharest. On Sunday, in Ploiesti, Chindia
Targoviste will play Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe. On Monday, FC Voluntari will play
FC Hermannstadt.
Two Romanian women’s handball teams
on Saturday are performing in Saturday’s last Champions League fixture. In
Group 1, CSM Bucharest will play Vipers Kristiansand at home. In Group 2, SCM
Ramnicu Valcea will take on Gyor of Hungary away from home. Both teams have
already secured qualification to the competition’s quarterfinals. On Sunday, in
the EHF Cup, Gloria Bistrita-Nasaud will play Herning-Ikast of Denmark in the
second leg of the competition’s quarterfinals. In the first leg played in
Bistrita, the team from Denmark won 29-26.
